«Multiple Sclerosis Association of America»

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the chronic disease that attacks the central nervous system. The effects can be moderate, from numbness in the limbs, to severe cases, like paralysis or loss of vision. MS includes the immune attack on the nervous system. The attack is believed to be triggered by many factors, so the forms and the course of disease differ from one person to another. The most common symptoms are pain, fatigue, numbness, vision problems, depression etc. Of the less prevalence are speech disorder, headache, tremor and others. In the United States approximately 350,000 (that counts for 200 diagnoses per week) are strokes caused by MS. Many organizations try to help to fight and cope with this disease, and Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (MSAA) is one of them.

MSAA practices long-term treatment, which is the most widespread and popular way of fighting the MS. These are disease-modifying therapies, most of the drugs are injected by patients themselves. Nevertheless, recently, MSAA have conducted many researches for finding treatment of MS, e.g. neuroprotective agents. Neuroprotection refers to strategies that prevent irreversible damage for the cells of central nervous system; bone-marrow derived, stem-cell transplantation involves both bone-marrow derived stem cells, from which white blood cells developed, and mesenchymal stem cells, which are derived from tissues other than bone marrow(Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, 2013). Additionally, MSAA provides the MRI services to people with MS disease who lack insurance. Also, MSAA is the founder of Multiple Sclerosis Coalition and a member of America’s Charities.

The exact causes of MS and treatments that make it fully disappear are still unknown. Organizations, like MSAA, provide their resources, decades of experience and knowledge to get progressive results, and help people to cope with it. Hopefully, they do their best in the future to find the complete treatment of multiple sclerosis.
